Vancouver Island

Well after a push to get across the country in our mad search for warmer weather, we did it... we reached Vancouver Island... Tired from a long day of catching and waiting for the ferry, we spent the night in the port of Sydney and were quite surprised to wake up to a "dumping of snow" the next day!  Islanders claim that snow on Vancouver Island is a rare sight - which became quite obvious from the way that people were driving and skidding off the road...

After braving our way through the snow, we actually did the touristy thing, we visited Victoria's parliament buildings (it was free and warm!) - our guide shared some interesting stories about the architect who designed the building... the totem pole outside of the building was an interesting display.  I rather liked the totem pole that we saw at the water's edge, not far from the parliament buildings... Little did we realize that this would be first of many eagles we would begin to see on this journey... among other interesting creatures such as the roaming peacocks...
